Adam & Atok

Ulu Yam, 2006.

Some people ask, why do I publish old photos? I'd just say the memory value in some photos are more to me now, than when it was taken.

Adam didn't get to meet his grandmother until he was about 8 months old because he was born here in Oxford. This photo was taken the first time he met her.

Malam

We had dinner reception with our friends that night, as a finishing ceremony. Alhamdulillah after all the anxiety and restless nights, it turned out more than I imagined it would be.

This is the last of my wedding entry. Thank you everyone.

Details of wedding :

Wedding Planner : Djari Artz ( http://djariartz.fotopages.com )
Kak Cida, who masterminded the whole event is my cousin's wife. She did bunga pahar, bride's bouquet and decorations of hantaran by herself. Her team also did my pelamin, decorations of the main table, decorations for the room and setting for guest tables. Suffice to say, the wedding was as I wanted and more because of her hard works.

Dresses : Unaisah Azlan (016-3589526)
I knew I didn't want to wear those typical heavy-beaded lacey kurung or kebaya, because I'm quite minimalist. And Unaisah just graduated in fashion design from Raffles Design Institute looking for projects. Meeting each other was like fate, and what she made for me were dreams came true.

Baju Melayu : Dzull Classique Kajang
Fakhrul didn't have much time, so I took the matter into my hands. We only had 2 weeks and I quickly sketched something different for dinner reception and phew, Abg Zul really delivered.

Accessories : All over places!
I got my veil from Shah Alam, I got my headgear from Rozie MZ Kajang, I got my selendang and tudung from Jackel, got my bracelets from some accessories shop in Mid Valley, shoes from Vincci+. Phowarrr.. I can't believe I did all that in 2 weeks!

Make Up : Deq Sha (019-3495383)
Seriously, I won't ever look like this again ! Not with those eyes all popped out, the nose that sharp, the hair that much !

Videographer : Ady from Dina Wedding ( http://www.dinawedding.com )
I promise you'll cry watching your own wedding video if Ady does it. At least I cried on mine. And two other videos he made of some other couples.

Photographer : Nazim Zafri ( http://www.nazimzafri.com )
Modest. I'm a fan of his works. Enough said?

[ADDED : Fakhrul & I thank you for your comments and best wishes]

Of Ira

I can't sleep. So I thought if I work on these photos of Ira, they will drug me off.

Ira was this girl probably around 7-8 years old who brought out nasi lemak to us when we had breakfast at her mother's little warung in Tioman. Not only her mother's nasi lemak blew my head off, but I was fascinated with her beautiful face and her curly hair that opens wonderfully like that.

So I asked her things like where her school is and told her how nice it was of her helping her mother running the place. After asking her mother's permission for photographs, she willingly sat there with her cat crawling in the frame and took photographs of Ira with her mother's warung as a backdrop.

On personal note, technically I like the second photo with Ira facing me and the cat facing the other way, sitting almost identically. The different colors of the wood and the place feels rusticity, and worked well as a black and white wet print. But I love her portraits where she looked straight in, that every time I look at them again I can almost see her fear, anxiety, hopes and dreams. Which is what I always seek in portraiture.

Will get that sleep I need now.
Goodnight.

Nenek Elly

Elly's grandmother, whom I called Nenek, passed away last Wednesday.

Elly is my best friend, we've known each other since we were five, and she used to live with Nenek when we were in high school. Nenek's house is next to mine in Kajang and I walked home with Elly to her house every weekday for four years since we were fourteen. This was the last time I met Nenek. This photo was taken in late 2006 when my family visited Nenek on Hari Raya. Not too long after I went back to UK, Nenek fell in a coma.

I may not have significant things of hers like Elly might have, but for now there is this photo that I took to remember her by.
